MOORESVILLE, N.C. Oct. 28—Larry Foyt hopes that Halloween will bring him some treats and not some trick of fate this weekend as he attempts to qualify for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“I’m looking forward to running at Atlanta,” said Foyt. “It’s a fast track and I like high-speed race tracks. With 59 cars entered, we know it’ll be tough to get in the race. We don’t have a provisional to fall back on, so we have to make it on speed,” said Foyt, who must be among the fastest 38 drivers to make his fourth NASCAR Nextel Cup start this year.

Foyt is working to make sure that the CLR/BAM Racing No. 59 Dodge is set up properly before it gets to the track. At the last outing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway earlier this month, Foyt could not correct the car’s handling problems in the 90-minute practice session he had prior to qualifying.

“The guys were thrashing to put that car together and it turned out that some things weren’t done quite right,” Foyt explained. “I hadn’t been in a race car for a couple months so that didn’t help the situation. We knew it was a long shot to make it, but we were still disappointed.

“We’d hoped to test before this race in Atlanta but that didn’t work out either. It’s a challenge, but the guys have been working really hard to get everything right this time around.”

Foyt is scheduled to do some private testing for Evernham Motorsports next month. He plans to run for the BAM Racing team in the final NASCAR Nextel Cup race of the season, the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway November 21.

Qualifying for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 will be shown on Speed Channel Friday night starting at 7:10 pm. The race will be broadcast live on NBC on Halloween Sunday starting at 12 noon.
