Larry Foyt: Charlotte Qualifying

Larry's 24th Cup series race will not take place this weekend. After struggling in first practice, he did not pick up enough speed in qualifying and did not make the field for the UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowes Motor Speedway. He ranked 49th of the 52 drivers who completed time trials.

His #159 BAM Racing Dodge was 49th on the speed charts during first practice. Larry ran his best lap in 30.527 seconds at 176.893 MPH, which was 1.657 behind session leader Ryan Newman.

Larry was the 27th driver to take to the track for qualifying. In his only start at this track in May of 2003, he rolled off 29th. That feat would prove to be difficult today.

The #159's first of two laps was a 30.465 at 177.25 MPH. Larry picked up speed the next time around the track, laying down a 30.382-second lap at 177.737 MPH. The car bottomed out a great deal during his run. He was 26th of 27 at the time, and ultimately ranked 49th. His time was 1.792 seconds slower than pole-winner Newman's.

Larry has two more races in Beth Ann Morganthau's #159 Dodge this season. Look for him at Atlanta and Homestead! The Atlanta race will take place on Halloween. Coverage of the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 begins at noon eastern time on NBC and on PRN radio.
