Larry Foyt Starts His Own NASCAR Busch Team

from Foyt Racing

Larry Foyt, Dave Tomasello and Zekko Racing have ended their business relationship after two months. Foyt cited differences in business philosophy as the underlying reason for the termination of the relationship.

Foyt, son of A.J. Foyt, is now looking for a ride in one of the NASCAR-sanctioned series for the 2006 season.

“I don’t think there is enough time to secure sponsorship for the 2006 season in the NASCAR Busch Series, so I am focusing now on landing a ride,” said Foyt, who has driven in NASCAR’s NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series.

“While I haven’t ruled out running my own team, it has been really difficult to secure sponsorship and the time is getting critical to field a car for the opening race at Daytona,” said the 28-year-old Texan. “I really want to get back to driving so I’m looking seriously for a ride with an established team. Obviously if one of my sponsorship pitches works out, we’ll spare no effort putting a program together that works best for everyone. However, right now my focus is on getting a ride.”

Foyt, who graduated from Texas Christian University in 2000 with a degree in communications, has competed in NASCAR since his debut there in 2001. He also is a two-time starter in the Indianapolis 500 driving for his father’s Indy car team.
