NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series driver Austin Cameron is making his return to racing after taking a year off. He’ll be piloting the #88 RaceCArCeilingFans.com Chevrolet for car owners Mark Golembeski and Ben Clymer of MRG Motorsports. The seat was previously occupied by the recent winner of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, David Gilliland who has move on to the NASCAR Busch Series.
Cameron is looking to make it two in a row for the MRG team by winning the season opener at Phoenix International Raceway, the United Rentals 125.
“It’s been a long year away. It’s been torture not racing,” laughed Cameron. “I am excited to be with the MRG team. They’re a team that wants top win as badly as I do. It’s going to be great to race again with some old friends and the fact that they want to work with me is cool. It’s also great to work with a crew chief of the caliber of Mike Naake and I want to thank car owners Mark Golembeski and Ben Clymer for this opportunity.”
The MRG Motorsports looks to win their first championship in the series after finishing fourth in the chase for the 2005 NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series Championship and third in 2004.
“We’re delighted to have Austin Cameron as part of our team,” said team owner Mark Golembeski. “David Gilliland leaves some big shoes to fill and we wish him much success in the NASCAR Busch Series. Cameron is a proven champion and we look forward to making many trips to victory lane this season. The chemistry of the team is already coming together quite nicely and be demonstrated by our success on the track.”
The United Rentals 125 NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series race will run Sunday January 22 at Phoenix International Raceway as part of the Annual Copper World Classic Weekend. Visit www.phoenixinternationalraceway.com for more information on the race event.
