Steve Park Post Race Report - NHIS

Steve Park looks forward to each and every visit he makes to his native New England and Saturday’s trip to New Hampshire International Speedway was no exception.

It’s a place where Park’s legions of fans turn out in droves and their enthusiastic support is something that Park thrives on.

In return for that loyalty, Park once again tackled the 1.058-mile track with a vengeance and gave them something to cheer about.

The Craftsman Truck Series competitors dodged raindrops from the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia on Day 1 at The Magic Mile but despite all early forecasts, the race day schedule went off without a hitch much to everyone’s relief.

Park started the 200-lap race 19th on the grid and it quickly became clear that patience and long runs would be the keys to his success. Immediately following the restarts Park had his hands full with a loose condition in his No. 62 Orleans Racing Dodge that would see him slip ever so slightly backward through the running order. Once the tires reached the optimum air pressure, however, the Orleans Racing Dodge would come alive and Park would quickly make up whatever ground he lost and then some.

The final caution of the race set up a four-lap sprint to the checkers – not exactly what Park and his team wanted to see – but the Orleans racer held his ground and when the checkers flew he had secured a 12th place finish and his fourth consecutive top 20.

“We’d start out loose,” commented Park after what was the series’ best race of the year. “You hate to give up spots here with track position so hard to come by.

“That final run was fun though,” Park added with a smile. “We came up through there and picked up a few positions.”
